Communication planning

We are used to plan all kinds of schedules, to plan Sprints and many other details in our project, but way too often we forget the most important thing – planning communication. Years ago when I was working as a project manager and learning for my PMP certificate exam, I remember that my “new thing” from those studies was to always create communication plans. So simple, so elementary, but so often forgotten. In agile world communication is even more important, since things change constantly and stakeholders are split around the world. Why not take one hour with your team and write down all the stakeholders, their roles and information expectations and create a table:

  • what needs to be communicated
  • why
  • between whom
  • best method for communicating
  • responsible for communicating
  • when and how often
